Acupuncture for Facial Rejuvenation

Acupuncture for facial rejuvenation can be traced back 2000 years. It is based on the theory of the meridian system. The entire organ systems are interconnected both internally and superficially and form a network that runs through the body. These meridian systems meet on the face. Proper functioning of the body meridians directly affects facial beauty.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is believed that the health of the body is shown, like a mirror in the face. Also, that the strength or weakness of the bodies blood and Qi (energy) and the emotional state, have a direct impact on the condition of the skin.

Besides the internal health of the body, there are other influences that can speed up the natural ageing process of the skin, smoking, excessive alcohol, too much or unprotected exposure to the sun/sun beds or high levels of anxiety and stress can all have an effect on the skin.

TCM believes that keeping the body healthy and reducing the external influences will have a major impact on the effects of the ageing process.

Needling specific points on the meridian system activates the energy flow in that meridian promoting blood flow in the entire system of the body, thus eliminating the root cause of the facial skin problems. By restoring organ balance and promoting blood flow to the skin more nutrients reach skin cells. It also has an effect on skin elasticity, helping to prevent sagging skin and wrinkle formation.

At A-I-M For Health a typical treatment would involve:-

- Taking a full history to determine any underlying health problems, emotional problems and any external influences on the skin ageing.

- Facial diagnosis to decide which areas will be treated.

- Facial cleansing prior to needling.

- Body acupuncture and cupping (when required).

- Facial Acupuncture.

- Facial massage + treatment with gua sha or jade roller.

- Home care plan.

This form of treatment is much less invasive than cosmetic surgery. It uses the bodies own repair and regeneration abilities to bring about a more natural and gradual change.

The numbers of treatments required depends on the individual. Some changes will be felt after the 1st treatment with the skin feeling firmer and healthier.

We generally recommend an initial course of 6 treatments each lasting approximately 1–1½ hours. Again it would depend on the individual as to whether the course of treatments needs to be extended or whether periodic maintenance treatments are required.
